Industrial Adhesive Tape Unwinding

RUBANS Group is your expert partner in the custom die-cutting and converting of adhesive tapes.

Our technical adhesive tape unwinding service is an essential converting process that adapts the length and packaging of adhesive tapes.

Unwinding involves converting large adhesive rolls, known as jumbos, into smaller rolls of various sizes, known as logs. These logs are then cut into custom-sized individual rolls. The aim of our manufacturing process is to provide more precise unwinding, winding, and rewinding, thereby ensuring consistent products.

Our machinery includes several unwinding machines, some equipped with multiple arms, providing a significant increase in productivity.

A Multi-Step Converting Process

1

Loading and Positioning the Jumbo Rolls

The large adhesive rolls, known as jumbo rolls, are loaded onto an unwinding machine. They are positioned using a lever that lifts the roll and rotates it horizontally to hold it securely in place.

A jumbo roll weighs between 250 and 400 kg and is generally at least 1 metre wide, with a length ranging from 200 to 1,500 linear metres.

2

Unwinding

The unwinding machine begins to unwind the jumbo roll. This process is often automated and controlled by sensors and tension-control systems to ensure smooth, wrinkle-free unwinding.

Unwinding and rewinding speeds can range from 0 to 180 metres per minute, with adjustable speed control.

3

Rewinding into Logs for Repackaging

The material is wound onto new cores to form logs, which are longer but have a smaller diameter than jumbo rolls. The material tension is carefully controlled to ensure uniform and precise winding, preventing wrinkles and tears.

4

Cutting the Logs into Finished Adhesive Tape Rolls

The next step in our process is to cut these logs into adhesive tape rolls of the required dimensions. This is known as log slitting.

The Benefits of the Unwinding and Rewinding Process

  • Efficiency

The process of unwinding jumbo rolls into logs is highly automated, enabling fast and efficient production. It maintains constant tension on the material, which is essential for preventing wrinkles, tears, and irregularities.

  • Quality

Precise control of tension and dimensions ensures consistent quality in the finished products. By preventing wrinkles and tears, the unwinding machine reduces material waste, making the process both economical and environmentally friendly.

  • Flexibility

Unwinding machines can be adjusted to produce logs in different sizes and specifications, making them versatile and suitable for a wide range of industrial applications and market requirements.

The unwinding process can be used with all types of adhesive materials, including single- and double-sided adhesives, as well as various backing materials such as foam, cloth, and kraft paper.
