An Industrial Die-Cutting Process
with Remarkable Precision

Flatbed die-cutting (or die-cutting) is an industrial cutting technique that uses a high-precision cutting tool, known as a die, to cut through both the adhesive material and its backing or liner. This is known as through-cutting, meaning the material is completely separated from its backing.

A Hydraulic Flatbed Die-Cutting Press

A steel rule die is used to click-cut or punch out the die-cut parts. This method ensures dimensional accuracy and consistent quality across all manufactured parts. This process makes it possible to cut thick substrates with less waste and greater production efficiency.

Punch-and-Die Tooling and Continuous Lamination Process

For finer cuts, we also provide integrated precision press solutions combining punch-and-die tooling with a continuous lamination process. This technology enables ultra-precise micro-perforations, making it ideal for high-performance applications. We achieve die-cutting tolerances of ±0.3 mm.

Through-Cutting

In this cutting process, the material is completely separated from its backing. This method is particularly suitable for thick materials, technical foams, multilayer films, and individual parts intended for industrial assembly.

Kiss-Cutting

Kiss-cutting consists of cutting only through the adhesive layer, whether the material or film, without cutting through the backing liner. In other words, the blade does not pass completely through the material. It stops just before reaching the backing. The die-cut shapes remain attached to their liner until they are ready to be used. This process is particularly suitable for thin double-sided adhesive tapes, lightweight foams, and labels.

Wide Range of Compatible Materials

Flatbed die-cutting is suitable for a wide range of adhesive materials.

  • Single-sided and double-sided adhesive tapes
  • Pressure-sensitive adhesives
  • Foams and adhesive foams (PE, PU, EVA, etc.) in various densities
  • Protective adhesive films
  • Self-fastening tapes such as 3M™ Dual Lock™ and Velcro®
  • Single-layer and multilayer materials, providing maximum flexibility to meet the requirements of a wide range of industries

FAQ: Custom Flatbed Die-Cutting of Adhesive Tapes

What Are the Benefits of Custom Flatbed Die-Cutting?

It offers high precision, reduced waste, fast and cost-effective production, and a perfect fit for the specific requirements of each industry.
This process is commonly used in the automotive, aerospace, electronics, textile, point-of-sale display, and construction industries.

The rotary die-cutting process uses a cylindrical die, whereas flatbed die-cutting uses a flat die, as its name suggests.

Flatbed die-cutting is better suited to thicker materials and small production runs, while rotary die-cutting is more suitable for high-volume continuous production.

  • Kiss-cutting consists of cutting only through the adhesive layer without cutting the backing liner. The resulting shapes, such as pads or strips, remain attached to the liner until use.
This process is particularly suitable for thin films, double-sided tapes, lightweight foams, and labels.

The benefits of kiss-cutting include easy handling and application, as well as convenient roll or sheet formats suitable for automated applications.

  • Through-cutting, on the other hand, produces fully separated adhesive parts that are ready to be packaged individually. This method is particularly suitable for thick materials, technical foams, multilayer films, and individual parts intended for industrial assembly.
Yes. Each project is assessed individually according to the required dimensions, shapes, tolerances, and material types.
